Keep In Trim While On The Move

August 2, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

I travel a lot on business, often spending the whole of the working week hopping from one airport to another, sleeping in airport hotels and eating a lot of airline food. It was soon clear that my busy travelling lifestyle was helping to make me a much fatter person.

Travelling alone on business brings with it a whole load of obligations. In order to be sociable it is often necessary to have dinner with clients and share a few drinks after meetings. Also, being away from home inevitably makes it more difficult to resist the temptation of room service and more difficult to take the exercise needed to stay in shape.

The same is true for holiday travelling. You feel in holiday mood and therefore more likely to give in to temptation. When visiting a part of the world where the food and restaurants are too good to resist inevitably you don’t. In combination with a few holiday drinks and some relaxing time by the swimming pool and by the time you get home you find that your clothes don’t fit any more.

Unfortunately there is no easy solution to the problem of gaining weight while on the move. But I shall share just a few of the techniques I use these days to keep my weight reasonably stable while travelling for business.

Firstly, I make it a priority to get some exercise wherever I go. This isn’t always possible especially when travelling all day long. But, whenever possible, I book myself into hotels that have some fitness facilities, maybe a gym or, better still, a swimming pool. I will always make good use of these welcome facilities when they’re available.

I never travel anywhere without my laptop so I keep a few keep fit workouts on my hard disk that I can follow from any hotel room. I will also try to take a vigorous stroll around the hotel neighborhood at least once every day. I find that this is not only great physical exercise but also a really good way to get my thoughts straight before an important meeting.

I will take every opportunity to stretch my legs and work off some of the airline food consumed on flights. For example, when I fly home I will always take ten minutes to walk around the perimeter of the Cardiff airport parking lot before retrieving my car. This wakes me up ready for my 30 minute drive home and burns off a few of the calories I’ve picked up while away.

I’ve started to go for much smaller portions and fewer courses when eating in restaurants. I will also select the healthiest option from the menu. Many restaurants, at home and abroad, have some very healthy fresh fruit and salad options these days. And another technique that I have adopted is eating more slowly.

Theses days I have nearly cut out alcohol completely which has brought some enormous benefits. Wherever possible I will choose to drink water rather than alcohol.

I doubt that my techniques will suit everybody but I hope that a few people will be inspired to adopt one or two practices that will help them to stay in shape.

Top Tip: When travelling, for business or pleasure, alway make certain that you have adequate and appropriate travel insurance. Nobody plans for the worst to happen, but if an accident does take place you don’t want the expense of a flight home in an air ambulance.

The Other Keys Of A Healthy Weight Loss Program

Healthy Weight Loss Program

Usually we think of eating a healthy diet, regular aerobic exercise and nutritional vitamin supplements as the key components of a healthy weight loss program. They are pivotal. But your weight loss program will not be successful if you ignore these other 4 steps.

Drink Plenty of Water.

Our bodies have more water in them than anything else. As a mater of fact we are majority water, even down to the cellular level. Not only are we made of water, our bodies need water to function properly. This is especially true for our digestive system. Our digestive system separates the nutrients from the toxic waste. If we can not flush waste from our system it builds up in our bodies.

Your body knows the importance of water. If you do not get enough it will store it like a camel does. Hence water weight is built up. Conversely, the more water you drink, the more your body uses. This is not just an issue of weight gain or loss. It is more an issue of health and your body functioning properly and avoiding disease.

Another reason to drink plenty of water is that water increases your metabolism and helps you burn fat. Lack of water slows down your metabolism, just like lack of food does. Your body conserves water when you are near dehydration a slows you down.

Finally, when you exercise you burn and sweat water. The water needs to be replenished for your body to recover and your muscles to grow back as they are torn down by your workout. For this reason you must drink more water when you exercise.

Drink eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day or more. More when you exercise.

Get Plenty of Fresh Air and Sunshine.

Put together as one point because they can be accomplished simultaneously. Fresh air equates to oxygen. Again on a cellular level operate properly on oxygen. Not enough oxygen we die. Not enough oxygen our cells do not work properly. Not enough oxygen our immune system ceases to function properly. Not enough oxygen we can not burn fat and fat is the retained in our bodies. Not enough oxygen, our metabolism slows down. Just like a lack of water and a lack of food. Slow metabolism equal less energy. Less energy equal weight gain.

We need sunshine for other reasons. Sunshine helps our body naturally produce Vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential for the proper functioning of all of our cells. Vitamin D might be the most important factor in our immune system. Therefore a lack of sunshine hinders our bodies from working at its optimum level which effects our digestive system, our metabolism, our energy and our weight. This is really the same story, just a different factor.

Have you ever wondered why the majority of our best athletes are from the sunshine states. Think about it.

Avoid Stress.

Stress ties our mind to our bodies. We we think something is wrong it is. This is not just about having a positive mental attitude. That helps. But, our bodies releases hormones when we are stressed or worried. These hormones cause a number of problems including weight gain. The hormones actually cause an increase of free radicals which cause an increase of abnormal cells which our immune system begins to fight. The stress and worry effectively makes us sick. Let alone causing us to eat wrong, further damaging our bodies.

Sleep.

Rest and sleep is our bodies opportunity to renew, refresh, repair and rejuvenate. The most important part of healing is sleep. We need to heal everyday. Without adequate rest and sleep our body does not function properly. That takes us back to our metabolism and our immune system. Sleep is really the fountain of youth, along with water, oxygen, sunshine, regular physical exercise, eating healthy food and nutritional vitamin supplements. All these elements make up a Weight Loss Program. When we get adequate sleep, sunshine, fresh air, water, exercise, healthy food and vitamins while avoiding stress; our bodies will naturally lose and maintain weight and our Healthy Weight Loss System will be successful.

Weight Loss Plan

Contrary to popular belief everyone needs a healthy weight loss program. Everyone does not need to lose weight. But, everyone needs a Healthy Weight Loss Plan as I define it. I define it as how we manage the greatest gift God has given us, our bodies, the temple of His Holy Spirit.

Regardless if you are overweight, just the right size or slim people die prematurely because they do not eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and provide their bodies with the proper vitamins, minerals and nutrients. This happens regardless of weight or age. God made it simple. He gave us all the fruit, vegetables, herbs, seeds, nuts and grains to be our meat. All we need to do is heed His Word. But our being over weight is just one sign that we are not obedient as caretakers of the Temples he gave us. There was no sickness or disease in the world until man ate what God forbade them to eat. When man decided to shun God he turned us over to our reprobate minds and let us do whatever we want to do.

Eat Healthy

We came up with a new word. It is antioxidant. It means that the food that God originally gave us has special nutrients to fight disease. No matter how much you weigh, it is proven that a Eat Healthy will help prevent cancer, prevent heart disease, prevent diabetes and prevent many other diseases. So first we are called to Eat healthy Food.

Exercise Regularly

When man was originally created he roamed the garden and just picked his fruit and vegetables off of the trees and that was his food. The key is all man did was walk (or exercise) and Healthy Weight Loss Plan. Then man was made to toil (work) for his food. In either case man was physically active and our bodies are made for activity. But if you believe in science then you will note that study after study has proven that if we exercise regularly, both aerobic and resistance training, we will reduce our risk of heart disease, reduce our risk of cancer, diabetes and other diseases. Regardless of your weight or age you need to exercise regularly.

Natural Nutritional Vitamin Supplement

There are some Nutritional Vitamin Supplement manufacturers that give the industry a bad name, by marketing unsafe and ineffective products. There are good natural nutritional vitamin supplements on the market. Advocare Health and Wellness is one such company. But we all need to supplement our less the nutritious diets with vitamins and nutrients to ensure we have the balance we need. A Natural Nutritional Vitamin Supplement as part of your Healthy Weight Loss Plan will ensure you get what you need.

So when you put it all together we all need a healthy weight loss program. Regardless of our weight or our age. When we eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly and take a Weight Loss Plan we live longer, healthier lives.
